The Greylag Goose feeds on plants, rhizomes and roots, as well as on small aquatic animals that it captures in the water. As it moves its head, it takes in water and uses pressure exerted by its tongue to filter out sand and stones and retain edible matter. Its skull is larger than other species of Anser geese, and it has a long flat bill with laminar structures along its edges.
