The herbarium of Estanislau Vayreda i Vila (1848-1901) was lent to the Institute on permanent loan by his son, Pere Vayreda i Olives, in 1934 and includes around 30,000 specimens. Vayreda was a member of the Société Helvétique pour l’Échange des Plantes and the Botanical Society of Barcelona. His herbarium contains plants from Catalonia, above all from La Garrotxa, Guilleries and L’Empordà , as well as material obtained via exchanges with other European botanists. It contains the type sheets for taxa tha both he and Costa described, including Allium pyrenaicum Costa & Vayreda and Polygala vayredae Costa (endemic to La Garrotxa). |
