Description | Group of shells of marine molluscs from the collection of Luis Gasull. In all, there are 64,000 specimens grouped in 2,650 lots. The collection includes specimens of Gastropoda, Bivalvia, Scaphopoda and Cephalopoda, the latter two groups only in small number and represented by just 30 and three lots, respectively. Wide range of taxa from the classes Gastropoda and Bivalvia. The geographical range extends from the Mediterranean coast to the eastern Atlantic, with a predominance of material from the coasts of the western Mediterranean and, in particular, the Balearic Islands. All of the collection has been registered, documented and digitalized to specimen-lot level. Data of a small part of the collection can be consulted on-line on the website of the Barcelona Natural History Museum and the portal GBIF. |
Provenance | This group of specimens is part of the collection of the malacologist Luis Gasull MartÃnez (1918-1982) and includes both marine and continental fauna. Most of the material was collected and identified by Gasull himself, although there are occasional contributions from sources such as Antonio Cobos, R. Galiana, G. Mateu, B. Mercadal and the Oceanographic Laboratory. Both the collection and the library were donated to the Museum by Gasull's widow Claudina Trenkle Bonsoms when Rosario Nos was the director of the Museum. The presentation was marked by an exhibition of part of the donation and the publication of a catalogue Catalogue od books of Malacology donated by LluÃs Gasull i MartÃnez (1918-1982) to the Zoologia Museum. Francesc Uribe has been curator of the Museum's non-Arthropod Invertebrate collection since 1997. During his time in charge, the registration, documentation and computerization to specimen-lot level has been completed. |
