Emili Juncadella, a man of means and a naturalist traveller, proposed to visit South-East Asia. His friend Joan-Baptista d’Aguilar-Amat, a scientist at the Barcelona Natural Science Museum, accompanied him with the support of Barcelona’s Provincial and Municipal Natural Science Board. The research and collection objectives of the trip were in the hands of Aguilar-Amat while Juncadella hoped to obtain another type of collection. In January 1929 they set sail from the port of Marseilles.
